Up the creek with a paddle…
Well we thought we would make the most of the weather yesterday, so once again we loaded the kayaks on top of the car and this time headed to Fowey. We launched from a little beach called Readymoney Cove and paddled up the river exploring the beautiful tree-lined creeks which can only be seen and got to by water. We arrived at the beautiful little hamlet of Penpoll where we were greeted by huge shoals of Mullet darting around our kayaks! (some of which were huge,if only I had my fishing rod)
After taking in the peacful surroundings of Penpoll we headed back to the main river and on to the next creek which takes you to another lovely village called Lerryn, this is a great spot to kayak too as the local pub has a slipway so you can land your kayak and have a pint! Unfortunately all good things must come to an end (apparently), and so it was we had to head back down the river and on to home, but one thing is for certain, we will be going back and hopfully with a small tent and bbq so we can camp out on one of the lonely creeks for the night.
Having lived in Cornwall since forever, I have been lucky enough to have seen many of the delights that the county has to offer, but I have to say I think the views and the countryside that we saw yesterday were among the very best, and I highly recommend going and seeing this lovely part of Cornwall…..
So if you are looking for a bit of adventure whilst on holiday down here, then you really should consider hiring a kayak from one of the hire centres in Fowey and exploring this stunning tidal river for yourself, the paddling is easy and ideal for beginners, and as days out go this is one of the best, unfortunately the photos I took on my mobile really do not do it justice. (you can also see our route as we tracked it via strava)
